“If you want to touch the past, touch a rock.

If you want to touch the present, touch a flower.

If you want to touch the future, touch a life.”

First of all, if you are on this page reading about how you can help the vulnerable in our community over this difficult period - thank you. We hope to touch many lives over this period and if you are able to assist by volunteering in the coming days, weeks and months your efforts will be truly appreciated.

The Crawley Down Residents Association is more than just a committee that organises events, we are here for our community and as such we have setup the Crawley Down Support Network to help those in need in the village and immediate surrounding area. As a rough guide the CDSN is covering the Crawley Down Ward which includes the village of Crawley Down and its surrounding area. Other support groups have been setup to cover Copthorne Ward, Turners Hill, Felbridge and East Grinstead. If you would like to help in those areas please click on the respective place and visit the relevant pages.

This 'volunteer portal' provides you with some information about the CDSN to help you decide whether to volunteer your time as well as some vital links that you may need once you're on our system!

How the CDSN works

The CDSN consists of volunteers. From 27th June 2020 the web based phone line will be manned by volunteers on 2 hour 'shifts' from 9am to 5pm on Wednesdays only. We call the people that man the phone 'Phone Operators'. These volunteers take a request for help and then put out a 'mission briefing' on our secure messaging / task management system. When someone offers to do the 'Mission'  it is allocated to the volunteer and they complete the mission. There is a bit more to it than that to ensure both those who requested help and our volunteers are safeguarded but that's the general gist. The support network will end on 29th July 2020, pending a 2nd wave/lockdown.

Whilst the CDSN is run entirely by volunteers it does have costs associated with running it. It is currently being funded by the Crawley Down Residents Association and Worth Parish Council (who have provided a £750 grant). Being a member of the Crawley Down Residents Association costs just £5 per year for your whole household and requires no involvement from yourself, if you would like to join please visit https://www.cdra.info/index.php/membership. In addition, donations are gratefully received and can be made by clicking here.

The CDSN would welcome your involvement, however great or small that may be, and the admin team look forward to welcoming you onboard!
